Sonia was born in Kabul, Afghanistan. After the political disturbance, she and her family fled to India and then to the United States at age 14. This was a difficult age for her and her brother who was 16 at the time. This difficult transition led her to chose a profession that would create sensitivity to others in the similar situation.

Sonia Rahel is currently working in California for a nonprofit organization that focuses on providing support and psychotherapeutic services for children and teenagers with severe emotional disturbances. She also works with their families in addressing domestic violence, substance abuse, physical abuse, emotional abuse, posttruamatic issues, gang involvement, academic concerns, and various other issues facing teenagers in this society today. Sonia has a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology. She is currently a Marriage and Family Child Counselor Intern, while working on receiving her private practice license in the State of California.
