Photos from the 1998 Afghan Soccer Challenge Cup Trivision © By Yamah Ghiassi July-Sept. 1998 Lemar-Aftaab The 1998 Afghan Soccer Challenge Cup was held by the Aryana Sports Club on July 3rd, 4th, and 5th at Mason District Park in Annadale, Virginia. A total of eight teams participated in the tournament: Pamir from New Jersey, Brishna from New York, Afghan Club, and Ariana from San Francisco Bay Area, Afghan Kickers, Ariana, and Afghan Student Association (ASA) from Virginia. The Cup was given to first place team Brishna. Second place went to Afghan Club and third to team Pamir. Over 1,200 Afghans from California, New York, Virginia, New Jersey and other parts of the country joined in for the tournament. After the Cup was handed out, the talented singers Sayed Omar and Zakiera gave a concert for the players and the fans. It was a weekend of enjoyment, festivities, and unity.
