Rabia Balkhi, princess and famous poet, lived in the court of the Samanid Dynasty in Balkh in the 9th century AD. Rabia fell in love with her brother Hareth's servant, Baktash. Hareth's anger resulted in the murder of Baktash. It is said that once Rabia heard of the murder, she ran to where Baktas was murdered and slashed her veins to die at the side of her beloved.
