"Eternal"
by Fahima Zahir
Jan.-March 1999
Lemar-Aftaab
The flames dance and flicker in the blue-green velvet of your eyes
What stirs within? I wonder, and see a reflection of me
A vision into your simple soul
Like the ashes that bring life to the phoenix
So from ashes, my soul again rises
When your body trembles, I am the pillar against which it stands
When your lips quiver, I rest them against mine
Every tear you shed is a crystal drop that melts on my tongue
Every wearying thought, I blow to the wind with my breath
I reach with hands to reassure, a smile that speaks of infinite love
I want to embrace you like waves that embrace the shore after a journey
Life is but an unfolding, in layers and layers
I want you, as you are and will be
Let each layer unfold our story, Eternally
