Preserving the Heritage of Afghan Culture
|
By Homayoun Samadi

Lemar-Aftaab
Da Zwanano Zagh is an independent
and autonomous radio program
organized and produced by young Afghans (zwanan
or jawanan) for the
Afghan community in Northern California. It broadcasts
on the air
Sundays from 5:00pm-6:00pm on 990AM.
The organizers and producers of this
program,
consisting of thirty
permanent members, have defined the word zwan or jawan
as a person in
our society who possesses many cultural attributes,
such as patriotism,
zeal, dignity, faithfulness, and deep
respect to the Afghan culture.
The program promotes the talents of young
Afghans and gives them an
opportunity to serve the Afghan
community by voicing their ideas without
any discriminations on the basis of
race, language, regional
differences, ethnicity and religion.
The majority of the program is allocated to cultural issues. However, we
have sub-programs related to Islam, important news from Afghanistan,
health issues/news, local news and events, introduction of famous Afghan
leaders, poets, writers, and other personalities. In addition, we have
poetry, music, interviews with Afghans, Question of The Week, and other
special programs.
The first program of Da Zwanano Zagh
went on the air January 25th,
1998. We have had many good responses
and words of encouragement
from our listeners.
Recently Voice of America had an interview with Da
Zwanano Zagh to introduce the program
to the international scene. Many
other interviews are coming up.
Our popularity has been increasing since
the first broadcast and we are
very excited about the success.
We ask for your active participation and
support
so that we can
enjoy such quality programs. Please e-mail or
write to us comments or
contributions that you would like to be
broadcast.
